The Royal Gorge

Just to the west of Canon City, lies the 1,000 foot tall gorge nationally acclaimed for its Class V Whitewater Rafting and Highest Suspension Bridge in North America. The flight over the gorge provides a no less daunting view of the shear cliffs and rapids of the Arkansas River as it Carves through the Rockies.

The exciting ride at Highland Aerobatics extends far beyond loops, rolls and dives. The backdrop of the aerobatic ride includes Pikes Peak (above), The Royal Gorge (bottom left), and the Southern End of the Continental Divide known as the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range (bottom right).

The Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range.

The Sangres make up the southern end of the Continental Divide extending from the middle of Colorado into New Mexico. The Divide is significant as water sheds to oppositie sides of the continent from this range that also houses 10 of the 54 14ners. The ride provided by Highland Aerobatics has a backdrop of the Sangres on one side and Pikes Peak on the other for the entire duration of the flight.

Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak is one of 54 of Colorado's "14ners", meaning a peak that rises above 14,000 feet. Pikes Peak is one of the most notorious as it towers above Colorado Springs on the Front Range, visible from Denver as you fly in. Highland Aerobatics is based at Fremont County Airport, just outside of Canon City with an incredible view of the great peak from the south during the entire flight.
